Termite inspection checklist
A printable version is in progress. Here is the outline it will follow — enough to walk an inspection with today.
Exterior
- Foundation walls checked on all sides for mud tubes
- Wood-to-soil contact identified and noted
- Downspouts, grading and standing water assessed
Crawlspace or basement
- Piers, sills and joists probed, not just looked at
- Moisture levels noted
- Any inaccessible areas explicitly listed
Interior
- Baseboards and trim tapped and probed
- Window and door frames checked for shed wings
- Attic framing inspected where accessible
The report
- Species identified, not just "termites"
- A diagram showing where findings are
- Scope of work written out, with what is excluded
